The Accelerator Division of Fermilab has recently built a cross-development environment that creates code for Motorola 68020 processors and runs on a VAX/VMS host. This environment is based upon the MTOS kernel and uses the Microtec Development tools for code development and the Probe/x debugging tools from MictoCase for code debugging. This paper presents the technical considerations that guided the selection of these tools, describes the effort required to integrate the tools into a working system, and reviews our experiences with the resulting environment. © 1990.
