Thyroglossal Duct Fistula with Double Tract: Case Report

Thyroglossal duct cysts are benign cystic formations that develop due to total or partial obliteration defect of the thyroglossal duct with secretory function of the surrounding epithelium. They can fistulize to the skin and are termed as thyroglossal fistula. Thyroglossal duct cysts are the most common congenital neck mass. They can be found anywhere in the midline between the foramen cecum and thyroid gland. They are usually located at the midline of the neck. These painless masses move vertically during swallowing. Ultrasonography is the initial investigation of choice for a clinically suspected thyroglossal duct cyst. Surgical approach is the commonly accepted opinion in the treatment of thyroglossal duct cysts. Sistrunk operation has the lowest recurrence rate, and is a reliable method with a low complication rate. In addition to thyroglossal duct cysts with normal anatomic structure, thyroglossal duct cysts with double tract can be seen rarely, as in our case. In this report, we present a thyroglossal duct cyst with double fistula and double tract.
