THE EFFECT OF IONIC ADSORPTION ON ELECTROCHEMICAL REACTION-KINETICS

In terms of statistical mechanics, the local probability of the elementary act of irreversible electrochemical one-electron reactions is averaged while allowing for the electric double layer set up by the indifferent electrolyte and by ions specifically adsorbed at the metal/solution interface. An expression for the current density as a function of double-layer parameters is obtained and analyzed for the case where the discharging ions are situated outside the Helmholtz layer.
