POSSIBILITIES OF PHYSICAL THERAPY AND ITS APPLICATION IN THE HORSE

Only few literature is available regarding the use of physical therapy in the horse. The paper outlines present possibilities and summarizes own experiences. Active therapy aquatrainer for recuperation and conditioning Passive therapy Massage, e.g. lymphatic drainage thermotherapy, e.g. hypothermia with Kryokomp (Hoechst) electrotherapy: low and medium frequency currents of medical equipment via suction electrodes high frequency current, e.g. from an ultrasound unit In human medicine, 50 per cent of all trauma patients receive physical therapy. Up to now, this type of treatment could only be used to a little extent in equine medicine.
