RACIAL-INEQUALITY AND SOCIAL RECONSTRUCTION IN MALAYSIA

The Malays, the indigenous people of Malaysia, were faced with historical socio-economic disadvantages vis-a-vis the immigrant communities. As such, the government instituted various measures to reconstruct society on the principle of protective discrimination. State-directed efforts to implant educational, commercial, and administrative traditions among the Malays assisted them to gradually overcome their disadvantages.
