Three sampling methods were used to estimate large numbers of Dacus cucurbitae and Dacus dorsalis. The weight method was significantly faster than either the volume or grid method and provided the most precise estimate of a known number of flies for both species. Sample sizes as small as 5% of the total insect weight resulted in precise estimates of the total number of insects. -from Authors
