Implant rehabilitation in patient treated with oral bisphosphonates: a case report

Objectives. To describe the case of a patient receiving oral bisphosphonates for over 3 years, rehabilitated with regenerative surgery before and after implant, without the occurrence of osteonecrosis of the jaw from bisphosphonates. Materials and methods. The patient treated with oral bisphosphonates was subjected to dental avulsion of compromise dental element, sinus lifting and implant placement according to a specific surgical protocol. Results. Due to the high compliance of the patient and the correct application of the surgical protocol it was possible to obtain an adequate healing of the soft and hard tissue. Conclusions. Patients receiving oral bisphosphonates for more than 3 years may be considered candidates for implant-prosthetic rehabilitation with good postoperative results.
