摘要
This paper exposes partial results of a qualitative research that aims to know, among other questions, what is the meaning of teaching for a group of university teachers. To this end, their comments about their conception of teaching and learning were analyzed from the theory of social representations. The most prominent approaches refer to the importance of human factor in the educational activity, and the need to integrate it with intellectual development. It was also emphasized the teacher's responsibility in the selection of socially relevant issues as objects of students' research. However, it should be mentioned that this group of teachers, who participated voluntarily in the project, are highly committed to teaching. It would also need to explore this type of social representations in other colleagues who do not give a special place to teaching in their professional activity.
