RECENT FAMILY POLICIES IN TURKISH POLITICS

Family engages attention of politics and of political power, owing to its functions in society. Particularly in modern political system, it stably canalizes change originated from political power to society and blocks destructive reflection of event which is against society and government. Hence, family is the center of interest of politics and government in social life and is directly or indirectly exposed to state intervention by prepared official policies. On the grounds of periodic necessity or ideologic idea of governments, it is sometimes forced to transformation and the existence of family is sometimes preserved. Family has been a fundamental subject of social activities and transformations desired to be realized particularly since formation of the modern state in our country. It has been designed as an object which can be formed by policies prepared according to periodic necessity and changing political power by government. Starting from this idea, in paper, policies or actions of the government in Turkey on family, from its foundation to present, will be investigated and then a diverse reading will be made about family as an institution, a focus of interest of politics. Family has been used as a means for strategic topics like population in some period. Especially since the 2000s, value of family has entirely been accepted. In this study, the process will be separated into periods based on the official applications about family.
