TRACE DETERMINATION OF VANADIUM AND NICKEL IN SAUDI-ARABIAN PETROLEUM AND PETROLEUM-PRODUCTS BY MICROEMULSION ICP-MS

The combination of microemulsion sampling technique, standard addition method, and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) has been applied for the determination of vanadium and nickel in Saudi Arabian petroleum and petroleum products. Detection limits of 2.52 mug/g V and 0.30 mug/g Ni in heavy crude oil samples were achieved. Recoveries of added metals as oil-soluble salts lie between 98-103%, and the relative standard deviation for five replicate samples was less than 5% in all cases.
