APPLICATION ORIENTED INFORMATICS AND INFORMATIONAL DISCIPLINES - A SYMBIOSIS BRIDGING THE GAP

摘要
Informatics is both a fundamental and an application oriented science. Its applications are to be found everywhere in business and industry and in all kinds of other disciplines. There are four main application areas: business, (technical) processes, languages and knowledge representation. In each of these application areas there are severe problems with quality. In ''Informational Disciplines'' there is a close interaction between application oriented informatics and another discipline. Information Engineers educated in these disciplines may well be able to bridge the gap between users and informaticians and help solve the application quality problem. At Nijmegen University application oriented informatics is taught to both students of informatics and students in ''informational disciplines''. An extensive software house project brings these students together for professional integration of learned knowledge and skills.
