INFLUENCE OF MEDIUM EFFECT ON THE ADSORPTION PARAMETERS OF PROPYL ALCOHOLS AT THE MERCURY AQUEOUS KCL SOLUTIONS INTERFACE

摘要
The variation of the activity (a(CKl)) of KCl 0.1 M as the concentration of propyl alcohols in the same aqueous solution is changed, is analysed from measurements of e.m.f.. Implications of medium effect in adsorption of 1-propanol and 2-propanol are discussed. The apparent surface pressure, DELTA-PHI, due to the change in a(KCl), increases as the branching in alkyl radical increases. The obtained values of DELTA-PHI are within the experimental error at alcohol concentrations smaller than 0.5 M for 1-propanol and 0.2 M for 2-propanol.
