GROWTH AND SPORE GERMINATION FACTORS IN DIFFERENT STRAINS OF BACILLUS-SPHAERICUS

摘要
The requirements for amino acids and other growth and spore germination factors of 16 different strains of Bacillus sphaericus with different levels of larvicidal activity were studied. The majority of strains required arginine, glutamic acid, methionine, threonine, serine, glycine, alanine, and lysine, but did not utilize phenylalanine or proline. The most effective inducers of spore germination were arginine, methionine, and glutamic acid. Virulent and avirulent strains were found to have specific differences in their requirements. Glucose had a repressive effect both on spore germination and on spore formation.
