Social and cultural characteristics of the urban spaces conform one of the three apexes which determinates urban environmental quality This quality is understood as the one that is present in those city places than have good physical conditions, contributing positively to the quality of life. An area of Merida city has been chosen as a reason of having all the typologies of urban areas present en Venezuelan cities. It is analyzed through the three determinates categories of social and cultural urban spaces. Descriptive, comparative and deductive methods have permitted to generate indicators in order to use for collecting and analysing spatial, functional, social and cultural information, looking for exploring the presence, capacity, quality, use and security of social and cultural urban spaces. This investigation reaches to recognize the social and cultural quality of the study case, and of its minor areas, the spatial requirements to accomplish, the effectiveness of the indicators and the incidence of the social and cultural urban aspects, in order to measure urban environmental quality. It allows making inferences between urban studied sectors and the ones they represent of the Venezuelan cities. That is too valued for planning and designing future associated urban spaces.
