An experiment was conducted during the rainy season (kharif) of 1989 and 1990 to study the effect of insecticides and sugar pressmud on nodulation yield nutrient content and quality of 'Punjab 1' soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.]. Phorate 10 G @ 1 kg ai/ha with sugar pressmud @ 5 tonnes/ha resulted in the highest nodule number (68.67), dry nodule weight (276 mg/plant), dry shoot weight (11.92 g/plant) and grain yield (1 514 kg/ha). The treatment also led to increase in seed, nitrogen (7.96%), phosphorus (0.88%), potassium (2.76%) and protein content (49.77%). The treatment carbofuran 3 G @ 1 kg ai/ha with sugar pressmud @ 5 tonnes/ha was next in order. which also gave the highest oil content (21.30%).
