The guaranteed independence of an Ombudsman is fundamental with regards to their autonomy and prestige in the eyes of the citizens. The statute recognises them as such and this is reinforced by the qualified majorities at election. Hawever, somo attempts to interfere have always been made by the political parties, as has been seen in a recent crisis in this relationship. All of this leads us to highlight the needto reinforce the independence of this magistracy, largely dependent on moral auctoritas.
