DRAINCAD - A SOFTWARE PACKAGE FOR AGRICULTURAL DRAINAGE SYSTEM-DESIGN

The DrainCAD software package is a product of many years' effort. The program is run on a PC. It is used for laying out and designing both surface and subsurface drainage systems of agricultural fields. It can handle fields of any irregular shape and size. Beside the numerical output of the program, DrainCAD provides a graphical output which includes the layout map of the field, longitudinal profiles of the collector and lateral pipes, longitudinal and cross sectional profiles of the ditches. A material list of pipes and earth movement requirements for ditches are given at the end of the design. This paper is limited to the subsurface drainage design part of DrainCAD, and the design of a drainage ditch is discussed together with the design of an irrigation canal in a second paper (CanalCAD) by the same authors.
