2-DIMENSIONAL HYDRODYNAMICS, ATOMIC KINETICS, AND LINE TRANSFER SIMULATION FOR RECOMBINATION PUMPED SOFT-X-RAY LASERS

摘要
A 2-dimensional hydrodynamics code and an atomic kinetics code for the recombination pumped aluminum Balmer-alpha laser (lambda = 39 Angstrom) have been developed. Numerical optimization of pumping conditions such as laser intensity, pulse duration, and width of line focus to obtain gain >1 cm(-1) has been carried out. Effects of the Lyman-alpha line trapping has been included in the atomic kinetics by means of an escape probability formalism. The importance of 3-dimensional ray trace calculation to evaluate the escape probability is determined from the analysis of the spatial and temporal evolution of the population inversion.
