摘要
The purpose is to identify the determinants of the level of local backward linkages (input purchases) for high- and low-tech manufacturers located in nonmetropolitan counties in the Western US. The first section of the paper deals with data definitions and sources, and is followed by a section on the general characteristics of the establishments surveyed and the analytical model. An econometric analysis of manufacturers' market linkages is then undertaken in order to determine if backward linkages differ significantly after controlling for plant and community characteristics. Both theory and previous research suggested that local linkages in rural areas would be lower for high-tech plants. The findings of this study, in general, supported that hypothesis. -R.K.Turner
