The paper discusses the role of evaluation in aesthetic judgment. On the basis of theoretical and empirical results of cognitive sciences, a naturalistic theory of aesthetic pleasure has been developed. This theory describes the multiple forms and the different functions that aesthetic pleasure assumes during the aesthetic evaluative process. The central role of aesthetic pleasure shows that evaluation and interpretation are intertwined components of the aesthetic judgment.
