摘要
Copper-alloys are finding usages in various industries and in various on-shore and off-shore activities. On-shore engineering activities, like chemical, petrochemical and fertilizer-industries and off-shore applications like offshore platforms, underwater piping, risers, etc, are the major areas, where these alloys may be finding newer applications, This is basically due to higher corrosion resistance of copper and its alloys, In this connection mention may also be made of the group, nickel - copper and copper-nickel alloys. Higher cost of nickel and the minimum requirement of 70% Cu for bactericidal application has led the technologists to think of alternative corrosion-resistance alloys of copper having 70% copper e.g Cu-Mn alloys, This paper has presented some data for suggesting a possible mechanism, by which copper-manganese alloys containing 70% copper may simultaneously perform their antifouling role along with the well recorded corrosion resistance.
