CULTURAL LIFE OF THE RUSSIAN PROVINCE: STATE, TRENDS, CONTRADICTIONS (BY THE EXAMPLE OF THE KRASNODAR REGION)

Based on the materials of the empirical study carried out by the authors, problems of the state and dynamics of the cultural life of the modern Russian province are considered. The results of a questionnaire survey of residents of three rural districts of the Krasnodar Region (Gulkevichsky, Kanivsky, and Tbilissky) are given. Monitoring of public opinion on the main characteristics of cultural life and problems of the effectiveness of the functioning of cultural institutions in rural areas is carried out. The socio-cultural impact of active practices of cultural policy on value and behavioral attitudes is studied. The empirical study of the main characteristics and dynamics of the cultural life of the modern rural society included: the study of the interaction of the audience with the sphere of culture and art, the analysis of free time and the inclusion of artistic and aesthetic activities in its structure for various groups of the rural population, the study of the motivation of the participation of the rural population in cultural events and in visiting cultural institutions, the identification of the effect of the active practices of cultural policies on the values and behavioral attitudes of the respondents. The survey results show that the majority of respondents in the studied districts (65.3%) are satisfied with the state of cultural life and consider their visits to cultural institutions in the free time as a basis for their participation in it. Despite critical comments on certain aspects of cultural life, the attitude towards the work of clubs (houses of culture, cultural and leisure centers) in rural areas is quite positive, especially among the youth part of the audience. An assessment of the state of the cultural life of a modern rural society makes it possible to speak limitedly of its favorable perception by the population. Reflecting in the responses a positive attitude towards the development of the culture of the region as a whole, the respondents point to the inadequate functioning of rural cultural institutions in the Krasnodar Region. Artistic enlightenment and more intensive touring activities can be important factors in the development of the basic values of the individual. They can compensate for existing institutional imbalances and bring the necessary elements of dynamics to the rural cultural life. The authors defined the directions for modernizing the cultural life of the modern Russian province and the changes in the structure of the activity of cultural institutions. Their development has a serious transformative effect of the influence of culture on the values of personality. This effect appears as a strategic objective of modern cultural policy.
