Sorption of 35 metal ions from aqueous solutions in the pH range between 1 and 9 by silica gel impregnated with a mixture of Aliquat 336 and Calmagit was investigated. The retained metals can be eluted with dilute solutions of hydrochloric or perchloric acids. The sorbent was used for purification of some potassium, sodium, and ammonium salts from trace amounts of zinc, lead, cadmium, and copper. The effectiveness of purification was confirmed by anodic stripping vol-tammetry. Some metal ion mixtures have also been separated by using column extraction chromatography and stepwise elution with perchloric acid solutions.
