CORRELATION OF THE SOLUBILITY OF FLUOROCARBONS IN WATER WITH THE SURFACE-AREA OF THE CAVITY FORMED IN THE STRUCTURE OF THE WATER BY THE SOLUTE MOLECULE

摘要
A correlation is established between the solubility of fluorocarbons in water and the surface area of the cavity formed in the structure of the water by the solute. This correlation satisfactorily explains the increase in the solubility of fluorocarbons in water when their structure contains rings or a branched hydrocarbon skeleton. The slope of the linear dependence of the work of dissolution on the surface area of the cavity proved to be 0.20 kJ/(mol.angstrom2), which is larger than the corresponding slope for hydrocarbons (0.14 kJ/(mol.angstrom2)).
