Community use and management of Dry Rain Forests of the Biosphere Reserve of Guanahacabibes Peninsula

The aim of the research was to visualize the relation between two communities: El Valle and El Vallecito, both located in the Biosphere Reserve of Guanahacabibes Peninsula with the Dry Rain Forests and the composition and development of Community Environmental Groups so as together with other important actors to implement a process of Action-participation Research, which enables the integrated participation in the restoration of learning and historical perception of the locals linked to their management practices and their relations with the Forest Ecosystems where the experimental plots related to the forest three succession stages are located, that is semi-dry notofilo: El Veral (Ripe succession), La Jaula (Intermediate succession) and El Valle (Early succession), the three areas have been taken on by the Collaboration Network for the study of Tropi Dry Forests-TDF) of the Interamerican Institute for Global Change Research. The process turned out to be of great interest by testifying accumulated cultural learning in forests community management and their local strategies for survival as well as the ways of interaction with the natural wealth these ecosystems supply, which are also a reference for the management policies carried out in these areas and the strengthening of articulated capacities for an integrated environmental action that contributes to local development.
