CUTANEOUS MESENCHYMAL HAMARTOMA WITH SPINAL-CORD INVOLVEMENT

A 3-month-old male infant presented with a soft tumor on the central part of his waist. In addition, the case was complicated by hemiparesis of the right leg and multiple aneurysms in the kidneys. An intradural spinal tumor was revealed by magnetic resonance imaging. Histological examination of both the cutaneous and the spinal cord tumor showed a proliferation of spindle-shaped cells in the fibrocallogenous tissue and the mature adipose and vascular tissue. Immunohistochemical study demonstrated that the spindle-shaped cells mainly reacted with anti-vimentine antibody, and some of them expressed CD34 antigen. However, the distinctive nature of proliferating cells, remains to be elucidated.
