3-CHANNEL POLARIMETER FOR MEASURING THE POLARIZATION OF AN ELECTROMAGNETIC-WAVE PROBING A LASER-PLASMA

摘要
The optic layout of a three-channel polarimeter designed to measure the polarization of an electromagnetic wave probing laser-produced plasma is described. The space resolution is similar to 5 mu m, and the contrast sensitivity similar to 10(-4). The polarimeter has been used on a plasma produced by the second harmonic of a Nd laser at a power density of similar to 10(15) W/cm(2). The experimental data demonstrate that the polarization plane is rotated due to the Faraday effect. No influence of the electron density gradient on the probe beam's polarization has been detected.
