New nonsurgical methods for gallstone treatment often rely on radiographic data for patient selection. Stone size, number and composition are critical for choosing the most suitable technique. In addition, new insights have been gained concerning the relative roles of oral cholecystography, ultrasonography, computed tomography, and the plain radiograph for gallstone diagnosis.
