摘要
We have estimated peak jitters due to various sources of disk noise, and showed that for our present experimental environment, transition noise is most important, to be followed not too far away by similar contributions from both background and edge noise. As the trackwidth is reduced, the resultant disk noise exhibits a gradual 1/root RW behavior if edge noise is not present, but a much more rapid 1/RW behavior if edge noise is present. These findings highlight the importance of eliminating edge noise in narrow track recording with write-wide read-narrow configurations. Finally, our results also showed that due to the early onset of edge noise contributions towards the track edges, a sizeable read-write margin might be needed to avoid edge noise contributions in narrow track recording.
