摘要
The prison doctor fulfills the duty of upholding the health of the prisoners. In many occasions the physician is also required to operate as a peacekeeping factor between the inmates and the warden, mainly in order to maintain the fragile relations existing in such establishments. The problems handled by a prison physician vary from addicted inmates to psychiatric patients who come into contact with him, requesting help. The profound knowledge of such delicate issues as medical confidentiality, informed consent of the patient and the correct medical certification is necessary in the prison working environment. The "chair" of a prison doctor is one the most demanding and responsible that a doctor can occupy, and without doubt it requires full and serious participation from the health professional.
