SOME APPLICATIONS OF STATISTICAL-MECHANICS IN ENZYMOLOGY .4. EFFECTS OF PH ON ENZYME

Effects of pH on enzymes are treated by statistical mechanical approach. The strict proof for existing pH catalysis theory is presented. It has been shown that the prerequisite for applying the existing pH theory to study the effects of pH on enzyme catalyzed reaction is that the two essential groups must be independent of other ionizable groups in the protein molecule. Some problems related with direct titration of the ionizable groups are discussed. © 1990 Academic Press Limited.
