摘要
Through haunting pictures of the Katanga's (Democratic Republic of Congo) post-industrial landscape, Sammy Baloji expresses the deep feelings of loss. Archival images of African workers juxtaposed against the ruins of factories and mines evoke the former prosperity and stress African workers' contributions crying out against deindustrialization. Sammy Baloji hopes to help his generation overcome the problems of deindustrialization and of ethnic exclusion. A "white man with frizzy hair", as he calls himself, Baloji Tshiani is Sammy Baloji's cousin raised in Belgium. Recording artist, he sings "Certainly, you won't get back the old country, nor the old times". The art of both Balojis suggests that young people should demand control over the future.
