The Eleventh Mental Measurements Yearbook (11th MMY) includes descriptions and reviews of 477 tests published or substantially revised since 1989. Because no minimal standards were employed for inclusion in the 11th MMY, the psychometric merits of the tests are quite variable. In addition. variability in measurement expertise is evident among the 412 different authors who provided the 703 reviews. A nonrandom inspection of the independent reviews of the same tests revealed, in several instances, considerable lack of agreement. Furthermore, even within a given review, concluding statements regarding the worth of the test are often ambiguous. In summary, the 11th MMY does not necessarily provide consumer-oriented test reviews that substantially aid in test selection. It is recommended that future mental measurement yearbooks not include psychometrically weak tests. In addition, it is recommended that the editors consider employing expert comparisons of tests at least within each of the 18 major classifications. Comparison would allow a rank-ordering of the psychometric worth of the tests and would provide considerable assistance to school psychologists' test selection decisions.
