The 1990s have seen an explosion in the use of the ISO 9000 quality system standards as a means for the supplier of industrial goods and services to ensure their customer's needs are met and also to provide suppliers with a benchmark to improve the way they do business. The ISO 9000 series is a group of standards that addresses the key management elements that must be implemented in order to have an effective quality program and ultimately remain competitive. For the supplier to meet the requirements of the standard they must demonstrate adequate management control in such areas as contract review, product design, purchasing, manufacturing, and servicing. This article discusses the impact the ISO 9000 quality system standards has on marketing professionals. This impact can be felt by marketers in such areas as developing a marketing plan, establishing pricing, and designing an advertising platform.
