Some remarks on the bearing capacity analyses of shallow foundations subjected to eccentric loads

摘要
This technical note compares different procedures for the bearing capacity analysis of shallow foundations subjected to eccentric loads using the approximate method suggested by Meyerhof. By numerical examples some possible procedures of analysis are presented, which differ in computation of the design ultimate load (resistance) and/or design action, using Approach 2 of the National Building Code. The analyses, performed in both drained and undrained conditions, indicate that some procedures lead to results conflicting with fundamentals of soil mechanics. The recommended procedures are those in which the design resistance, design action and eccentricity are calculated on the basis of the net pressure acting at the foundation level.
