Closed-form exact expressions of the crack opening displacements and the corresponding inelastic strains are obtained for crack arrays embedded in (two-dimensional) isotropic or orthotropic elastic solids which may be three-dimensionally isotropic or transversely isotropic. Parallel and randomly oriented distributions of the crack arrays are considered to estimate the overall elastic moduli using various micromechanical estimating schemes, such as the method of dilute distribution, the self-consistent method, and the differential scheme. The results are illustrated by means of numerical examples, and the averaging techniques are compared.
