摘要
Arthrobacter sp. X-37 isolated from soil samples, with p-xylene as a sole carbon and energy source metabolized p-xylene via p-toluic acid and 4-methyl catechol. Mutant strain MX-3, derived from Arthrobacter sp. X-37 by treatment with NTG, accumulated in the culture broth p-xylene 2,3-dihydroxy-p-toluic acid, which has not been located in the metabolic pathway of p-xylene. A silent metabolic pathway encoded by the genes in the wild-type strain seemed to be expressed by the mutation.
