We have been building for centuries with brick and timber and for decades with concrete and steel. The demands of the building industry clearly indicate that we simply cannot achieve the built environment as needed during the next few decades due to serious shortages of traditional building materials and components. It is indeed essential for us to think of new and alternative materials to complement or entirely replace some building materials for which there is a shortage of raw materials, for example, bricks. The author has presented a realistic perception and projected possibility of the new development efforts needed. Without a breakthrough in the area of new alternative building materials, we can hardly attempt to achieve our targets.
