Postoperative periprosthetic fractures of the femur are likely to become an increasing clinical burden. The Vancouver classification system is a simple, valid, and reproducible means of classifying these injuries. The evidence supporting the treatment of these fractures is predominantly derived from Level-III and IV studies only.
