摘要
The author theoretically problematized the ways of managing urban space in cities based on the grounds of empirical evidence on the social environmental management of such spaces. One of her main theoretical resources is Milton Santos, a Brazilian geographer, who conceives space as a system of objects and actions. The article redeems the significance of the relationship between society and nature, identifying culture as predetermining and yet pre- determined condition in such dual impact correlation. The typology in the planning of social reality deliberately gives priority to the use of objects in the redirecting actions that would shape urban life both in the neglecting of use values and symbolic interpretation of a population. The article intends to show, under the concept of liminal spaces, the social dynamics conveying resistance and conflict between signifier and signified, in spaces that become expression of the disputes for the coexistence of past and contemporary times in the imposition of interests of urban space organization while increasing earnings by means of privatization.
