PRECISION OF MEASUREMENT OF THE COARSE EDGE IN THE WOOL FIBER DIAMETER DISTRIBUTION

Experiments were conducted to examine the repeatability of measurement of the coarse edge component of the diameter distribution of wool tops. When calibration procedures are carefully controlled, the precision of measurement of the coarse edge can be determined by Binomial (or approximately Poisson) statistics. For this reason the observed standard deviation on repeated measurement of coarse edge is approximately equal to the square root of the number of counts measured in the coarse edge.
