DEVELOPMENT AND UTILIZATION OF MAMMOGRAPHIC SERVICES IN IRELAND 1985-1991

The public hospitals provide an accessible clinical mammographic service. Modern equipment and trained personnel were available in all health areas except one in 1989 and 1991. The survey indicated that the deficiencies in the service were chiefly in the areas of throughput, uniform training, quality control, cost and audit. Developments since that time have addressed particularly the areas of training and quality assurance. However a greater emphasis and standardisation in these important areas is essential. There is a need for a uniform audit programme for all units. © 1995 Springer.
