In Mexico urban sprawl coupled with the lack of planning has generated certainly significant regional imbalances, social inequality, exclusion, and the increasing problems of livability of urban areas, problems such as poverty, insecurity, road congestion, housing, unemployment, inequality in access to public services, air pollution, noise, landscape and urban and industrial solid waste, soil irregular occupation, vulnerability to disasters, among others. The treatment of the land problem in the context of urban planning towards improving the quality of life, demand includes elements of sustainable development. This article discusses the urban problems of poverty, homelessness, illegal settlements, and municipal solid waste, since the conjugate in the territory results in a threat to the sustainability of urban areas where it grows.
