The purpose of this reflection is to present an overview of the ethical control exercised by modern thought on society from the viewpoint of postmodern critique. With a preparatory emphasis, this study explains the paradox that modernity brought with it, rendering cult to almighty reason while condemning religious beliefs. In this sense, the guardians of ethics as guardians of wisdom and the power needed to exercise it, were indicated to impose a morality alien to the feelings of people, a codified ethic. From this, the duty to care for the weak arose for the powerful that were called to lead the way to the perfection of the entire society. In conclusion, postmodernity showed the chaos hidden in such pretensions, configuring a new reality that is honest about desires and human emotions in the midst of the uncertainty of new times.
