摘要
The study aimed to familiarize the utilization of biosafety in nursing practices with clients in climates at risk for pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) in a University Hospital in Rio de Janeiro (RJ). Objectives: To describe the uses of biosafety in nursing practices with clients carrying pulmonary tuberculosis; to characterize the circumstances of the use of biosafety in nursing practices among patients with respiratory concerns at risk of pulmonary tuberculosis. Methods: This is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach. Data collection was through structured interviews with 30 nurses in the medical clinic sector of a University Hospital of Rio de Janeiro, in the month of November of 2008. Results: 68% of nurses reported that there is no activity concerning biosafety related to tuberculosis in the institution. Conclusion: Improper work conditions may hamper the implementation of biosecurity measures for pulmonary tuberculosis in the hospital environment and the control procedures against hospital infection, and may have negative repercussions on the health of workers and clients. Descriptors: Biosafety; Tuberculosis; Health occupations; Nursing.
