HEPATIS RETROVIRUSES AND VIRUSES IN PRIMARY GOUGEROT-SJOGREN SYNDROME

Recent research has given rise to observations which point towards viral involvement in the onset of PSS. Sera from 28 patients and 27 control subjects were tested for antibodies to different viruses : retroviruses (HIV-1 and 2, HTLV, human spumaretrovirus), hepatitis B and C viruses. Only 4 out of the 28 PSS sera exhibited positive results for HCV antibodies, whilst all the controls were negative. Various viruses have been implicated in their specific endemic areas ; this fact argues for a genetically determined host immune response to a number of different viruses.
