THE EFFECT OF ION IRRADIATION ON MICROSTRUCTURAL EVOLUTION AND MECHANICAL-PROPERTIES OF NI-P AND NI-CR-P BRAZED JOINTS OF AUSTENITIC STEEL

Joints of austenitic steel 316L brazed by NiP and NiCrP alloys have been irradiated with 10 MeV Xe3+ ions or 14 MeV Ar3+ ions up to 30 dpa. The microhardness of the phases in these joints in the nonirradiated condition and after irradiation was measured using a Vickers diamond pyramid indenter. The microhardness of the fee phase in the joints is about 3 GPa and that of the austenitic steel about 2 GPa. These values increased by 40-50% due to irradiation. In the initial states the microhardness of the M(3)P and M(2)P phases (M: Ni, Fe, Cr) is 3-5 times larger than the microhardness of the fee solid solution phase. The microhardness of the M(3)P phase decreased by about 50% on irradiation to 2 dpa due to a transition to the amorphous state. The hardness of the M(2)P phase due to irradiation showed a decrease of about 25%.
