摘要
Lanthanide metals form bright, luminescent complexes with the sodium salts of 2,6-dipicolinic acid (2,6-DPA) in aqueous solution. Pure crystals of the complex of terbium with 2,6-DPA are precipitated from neutral aqueous solutions. For such crystals elemental analysis indicates the molar ratio of 3:1 of ligand to central metal. However, the total luminescence of the complex in aqueous solution is a function not only of metal concentration but also of the molar ratio of ligand to metal. In solutions having a molar ratio of 0. 5:1 to about 2. 5:1, it is probable that solvated complexes form that, in turn, have molar ratios proportional to the solvated ligand and metal.
