This work describes the importance of organizational processes and evaluation of a new documentary source: The Jose Maria Uribe Uribe file (1838-1921), located in the documentary heritage hall of the EAFIT University. Through these lines the importance of the work of the historian in assessing the organization of business records is shown, those files are highly valuable for the economical and social history of Antioquia. Moreover, this study also takes into account the historical context in which the documents comprising the file emerged, including trade, traders and commercial houses in Antioquia since the mid-nineteenth century until 1920. Finally, thanks to the analysis of the correspondence and account books found in the Jose Maria Uribe Uribe 1838-1921 Archive, was possible to reconstruct not only the family history of the traders from Rionegro Jose Maria Uribe Uribe, Pedro and Estanislao Uribe Ruiz but also the history of commercial houses Jose Maria Uribe and Sons (1852-1894) and Uribe Ruiz Brothers (1894-1916) that functioned in Rionegro, Manizales and Medellin.
