SOCIAL NETWORKS AND LOCAL DEVELOPMENT

The aim of this article is to analyze local development from social capital theory and social networks. The central thesis is to evidence how social capital, in the sense of relations and interactions between different local actors, condition the opportunities and guidance local development. It is based on the research carried out in the Raval neighborhood, in Barcelona, in the last two years. Structure and social network dynamics were studied. The observations and data presented here are based on a research financed by "Departament de Justicia de la Generalitat de Catalunya", which wanted to approximate social networks through graphs elaboration and networks analysis methodology.
